Professional Advisors

Beacon Ratings’ board comprises five (5) professionals drawn from diverse fields, three (3) independent non-executive directors, and two (2) executive directors. The Board’s primary role is to assess the overall direction and strategy of the company and foster an environment that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance. In order to further its goal of sound governance practices, the board also plays a substantive role in establishing a policy-based governance system, reviewing and amending its policies periodically as necessary, avoiding conflicts of interest or even the appearance of them, and taking necessary actions under its fiduciary duty to protect reputational capital and assets of the company.

The Board also provides leadership, control, and support functions of the business of credit rating. The independent directors have additional responsibility over the following areas:

  • Surveillance of credit rating policies.
  • Effectiveness of internal quality system in relation to credit rating activity.
  • Effectiveness of credit rating compliance function.
  • Effectiveness of quality assurance and review function.
 

Professor Samuel Agyei-Ampomah

Chairman (Independent)

Professor Agyei-Ampomah has over 25 years of work experience as a senior academic with an international reputation in teaching, research, and scholarship in areas related to Economics, Finance, and Accounting. He is currently a Professor of Finance, and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, GIMPA, Accra. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance with a specialty in Financial Markets, Investments, Asset Pricing, and Econometrics. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK, and has been a teacher/researcher, and consultant in the area of Finance and Accounting. He held full-time faculty positions at Surrey Business School, University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, and Aston Business School, Aston University, Birmingham, UK. His research has also been published in highly rated international journals including the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, European Financial Management, International Review of Financial Analysis, and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. He consulted for a number of organisations including Bui Power Authority, Ministry of Finance, the National Banking College, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and Bank of China. He is a NPRA-licensed Trustee since 2016, and currently the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for GIMPA Occupational Pension and Provident Fund Schemes.

Dr. Kwasi Awuah-Werekoh

Member (Independent)

Kwasi Awuah-Werekoh is currently the Director of Finance at Ghana Maritime Authority. He has work experience in Information Technology, Management Accounting, and Financial Reporting. He was a consultant at African Development Bank (AfDB) and Ultimate Development Finance. He was also a lecturer at GIMPA, Operations Manager – Enterprise Development Centre at Enablis Ghana. He is a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) with a PhD in Accounting and Finance (University of Birmingham, UK), an MBA Finance (University of Leicester, UK) and MSc International Accounting (Anglia Ruskin University, UK).

Prof. Bernard Acquah Obeng

Member (Independent)

Prof. Obeng is an Associate Professor at the Business School, GIMPA and International Faculty, Mona School of Business and Management Studies, University of the West Indies, Jamaica. He is also an International Research Fellow at Open University Business School, UK. His research interests are in Entrepreneurship and SMEs Management, Marketing and Innovation. He holds a PhD, Durham University, UK, MBA, Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus, BCom, University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

Fafape Foe

Member, Ag. Chief Executive Officer

Fafape has over 12 years work experience in accounting, auditing and finance. She was the Head of Finance and Administration at Thywill Limited, and founder and Chief Executive Officer of E90 Ghana Limited. She holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Accounting from the University of Ghana, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Accounting option) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), a Certificate from US Department of States Academy of Women, a Certificate in International Business from Fox School of Business, Institute of Global Management Studies/CIBER, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA, and a Certificate in Executive Education from Yale School of Management, USA. She has attended several conferences including International Business Conference in Harvard Business School, and Executive MBA Workshop, Boston, USA. She is a Member of Chartered Institute of Administration and Management Consultancy (CIAMC).

Yao Akaba

Member

Yao has over 22 years of work experience in accounting, finance and investment management, both in academia, consulting and practice. He is a Lecturer at GIMPA, worked as an Audit Associate at KPMG, Netherlands, Consulting Financial Analyst to World Bank Consultant, Financial Advisor to GTZ, and Chief Credit Risk Officer and Founder of Indigo Investment Management. He is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA), Member of ICAG, Chartered Exploration and Production Accountant. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UCC, an MBA in Finance from University of Ghana, and MPhil Business Analysis from MsM, Netherlands, and Advanced Certificates in Corporate Entity Profiling, Business Analytics, Credit Risk Analysis and Credit Rating from CRISIL, India, a subsidiary of Standard and Poor’s Global and other advanced certificates.
